Mayor Björn Ingendahl congratulates Remagen winners of the Volksbank RheinAhrEifel's "Future Prize for Home"
At the award ceremony for the Volksbank RheinAhrEifel's "Future Prize for Home" on June 17, 2024, three applicants from Remagen were honored. Mayor Björn Ingendahl took the opportunity to congratulate them once again
Every year, Volksbank awards this Future Prize to particularly outstanding associations or volunteer initiatives, but also to innovative and sustainable companies. Around 80 applicants took part in the competition this year. The first prize, together with the Koblenz food bank, went to the Remagen Bridge Peace Museum.
The TUS Oberwinter was honored for its services to the topic of inclusion. Another prize went to the mechanical engineering company R&W, a family business in the Remagen industrial estate that has been operating in a particularly sustainable manner for two generations.
In his congratulations, Mayor Ingendahl emphasized how pleased he was to have such committed citizens in Remagen, both in the voluntary and business sectors. This award radiates far beyond Remagen.

Commemoration and wreath laying ceremony 7.3.24
With a well-attended event, the Remagen Bridge Peace Museum commemorated the capture of the bridge by the US Army on March 7th, 79 years ago.
As chairwoman, Karin Keelan welcomed numerous invited guests as well as many Remagen residents. In her introductory speech she bridged the gap between the events of World War II and the situation today. Like all other speakers, she urged people to give Ukraine the best possible support in its fight for freedom, democracy and peace.
The guest of honor was US General Consul Norman Thatcher Scharpf, who particularly emphasized the importance of American-German friendship in his speech. He stressed the need for Europe and the United States to cooperate even more than before to defend the values that both sides stand for in an increasingly anti-democratic world.

Open Monument Day 11.9.22
250 guests and numerous participants in groups explore the museum
That was exciting! There was a lot to see this time. Visitors could not only take part in guided tours, but also talk to our "time travellers" from Bastian Stieler's reenactment group and also touch original exhibits in the mobile museum. A French Foreign Legionnaire came from Cochem to provide support and a student from Bonn completed the picture as a paramedic, also in authentic clothing. The special exhibitions for Timmermann's 100th birthday gave those interested a deep insight into his family history and the liberation by the Americans in the region. This year we were also able to celebrate 2 handovers. More on that in the next few days. Many thanks to the group "3rd Squad" for the historical insight and also to the passenger ferry Nixe for the extended ferry times in the morning! We look forward to welcoming you to the Natorampe at the next event and when the water level is decent. (translator : google)

US veterans visit the tunnel
On March 23, 2022 we used our friendly bridge to Ad Erpelle (art and culture association for the tunnel of the Ludendorff Bridge) and were able to take a look at the tunnel history on the other side of the Rhine together with the US veterans Harvey Segal, Robert Chouinard and Edwin Cottrell.
Thanks a lot for the pics Björn Schwiderowski
Obituary Hans-Peter Kürten
The association FRIEDENMUSEUM Brücke von Remagen mourns the founder of the association and initiator of the museum Hans-Peter Kürten. He died on March 6th, 2022 after a long illness. We would like to thank him for his unforgettable and important initiative to turn the bridge towers into a peace museum, which is more topical than ever and for which we now bear responsibility. Thanks to his idea at the end of the 1970s to sell the stones from the bridge pillars, the Peace Museum was able to open in 1980. By founding our association 40 years ago, he also managed not only to maintain the museum as a memorial and admonition, but he also set an example with the association members for the active peace work that we are today more than ever legacy and to which we are committed. We mourn with his family and remember him with deep gratitude.

Each person should begin with himself." (H.P.Kürten)
Wreath-laying ceremony and commemoration March 7th, 2022
This year's wreath-laying ceremony was overshadowed by the current war situation in Ukraine and unfortunately also by the death of the museum initiator and club founder Hans Peter Kürten. The longtime chairman of the association died one day before the memorial service. So was the wreath-laying ceremony by the Veterans Association VP Historic Events Association of the U.S. Army dedicated to the fallen Americans, but a minute's silence was reserved for all the war dead from back then, the victims of the war in Ukraine, as well as the late visionary and former mayor of Remagen. The Board of Directors was very pleased about the numerous guests from near and far. About 50 guests could be welcomed. "We are very pleased that we are getting so much interest and support," says Karin Keelan, chairwoman of the association.

Peace work is an ongoing task. International exchange of information in the Peace Museum
November 7th, 21 A very interesting international group of visitors were able to receive the board members Barbara Heimbach and Volker Thehos in the Peace Museum Remagen. Andrew Denison, political scientist and director of Transatlantic Networks in Königswinter, organized the visit. Even a member of the museum's association, he moderated the meeting and provided targeted impulses for a lively exchange of information.

Veterans meeting
US veterans and contemporary witnesses visit us again and again. There was also an emotional meeting on September 30th, 2021, when US veterans found themselves in Germany for the first time on the trail of their own history. For the very old former US soldiers, there was an enormous dumbbell program to complete and yet they took the time for "the bridge". They tried to locate the former flag positions or exchanged ideas with the contemporary witness Mr. Tegethoff, who had traveled specially.
Here you can find some more informative videos about the veterans, their history and the reconciliation:

Great participation in the "Peace Stones" campaign
May 8, 2021. The participatory action "Peace Stones" on the day of liberation from National Socialism received a great response. More than 150 stones were placed at the bridge of Remagen on May 8. Children and adults had painted many different motifs for peace and friendship and placed them in front of the Peace Museum. Not only pictures but also sayings decorated the stones: " This is a peace stone. For thousands of years it lies peacefully in the sea and river. This is how peaceful the world should become. Our all wish!"
Laying of a wreath in remembrance
On the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the serious accident on April 11, 1992 at the Chapel of Peace with the Black Madonna, members of the Board Peace Museum, Bridge of Remagen e.V., laid a wreath in memory of the victims on Sunday. 80 believers of a pilgrimage group of the Catholic parishes "St. Peter and Paul" from Remagenand "Johannes Nepomuk" from Kripp had celebrated a service at the chapel late in the evening, when a heavily intoxicated 22-year-old man from Unkelbach had crashed unbraked into the praying crowd. 4 people lost their lives and 13 were injured.
40th Anniversary - Committment for remembrance and peace
Remagen, 14 January 2021: Today there is a reason to celebrate. Exactly 40 years ago, on 14 January 1981, our association was founded by former mayor Hans-Peter Kürten. Many have accompanied the association for decades and have been committed. Since 7 March 1981, the association has been running the Peace Museum in the Bridge Towers in Remagen and all those who have been involved can be proud of the development of this historic site. More than 800,000 guests from all over the world, from Oceania, Asia, the USA to Europe have visited the exhibition so far. For the many contemporary witnesses of the Second World War and their relatives, commemoration is important. In the visitors' book, the visitors emphasise the idea of peace and many write "Never again war!". Especially our present time shows us again how important it is to work for peace.
Yes, it is shining again. After an extensive search, we were able to find and fix the faults in the exterior lighting of the bridge towers. Just in time for New Year's Eve, the towers are once again shining in impressive light at night.
